AS SOMEBODY who was born in Bromsgrove, and was brought up and lived in and near Bromsgrove, and has now moved back to Bromsgrove, I really appreciate the few pleasant places it has to offer.

And now, living within the vicinity of Sanders Park for the last three years and walking our dogs there most mornings and nights throughout the year, I get to see and appreciate the full beauty of the park in all the seasons.

Unfortunately I also get to see the state it is being left in recently.

The sheer amount of rubbish is astounding and even though [it is] cleared up regularly, it repeat offends time and time again.

I think it’s great that it appeals to and attracts such a vast amount of people and brings together the community, and I love to see people having a great time there.

However, I am disgusted at the complete lack of respect for the park, the people who work so hard clearing it up, and the local wildlife.

It’s such an ignorant thing to litter, but metres from a bin and that’s something there are a plenty right around the park.

There are no excuses for leaving any litter anywhere yet these people do it blatantly and even in broad daylight.

It’s absolute arrogance, ignorance, and sheer rudeness that they don’t even query what they’re doing is wrong.

A group of maybe 15-17 year olds had a barbecue party in the park.

Great fun great place to do it. I saw them the previous evening and they were even pleasant enough guys and girls but, seriously to just finish their party, get up and go home without any feelings of guilt. Or wrong doing.

But it’s constant. Even the younger generation of 12 years and younger discard sweet wrappers, pop cans and bottles everywhere.

I have a four-year-old son and constantly tell him how wrong it is and he knows that it is and will even pick up the odd bottle or wrapper and bin it.

The council loudly shout about how heavy the fines are for people who leave dog mess on the floor but are happy to pay people to clear up masses upon masses of rubbish!

Where’s the logic in that? Should there be littering fines that are monitored or should the schools get involved and teach the kids to learn about respect for the people who work so hard to keep the streets and parks clean by taking turns to litter pick?

I strongly believe that if enough people who love Bromsgrove shout aloud about their concerns that somebody will listen.

This is something that I feel so strongly about and feel needs addressing.

We have this beautiful park maintained and kept prim and proper and planted with fantastic trees, with an awesome skate park, it’s about time we all showed our appreciation.
