Once again, covert filming in a slaughterhouse reveals sickening abuse of animals by workers. Slaughterhouses are obviously brutal places in which to work. Slaughtermen are pressurised to kill animals as quickly as possible in order to maintain or to increase ‘productivity’.

No human being could do such a job without a level of de-sensitivity that destroys any sympathy for another creature, which then easily descends into wanton cruelty.

This is exemplified in scenes from secret filming such as at those at Bowood slaughterhouse in Yorkshire. We see sheep being kicked in the face, or picked up and thrown by their legs, fleece and ears.

A worker stands on the neck of a conscious sheep and bounces up and down. Another laughs at a sheep bleeding to death with ‘spectacles’ drawn around her eyes in green paint. Ha Ha!

In 2012 two slaughtermen were jailed for animal abuse which included beating pigs and stubbing out cigarettes on their faces – again exposed by covert camera. Every time undercover filming of slaughterhouses takes place, similar examples come to light. The current incidents at Bowood are only the latest, and sadly, a tiny sample.

Evidence of serious malpractice does not come easily.

Covert filming can be dangerous.

It is only worthwhile if more people are outraged sufficiently to change their diet. Bromsgrove residents who would like more information can contact Animal Aid at www.animalaid.org.uk or write to them at The Old Chapel, Bradford Street, Tonbridge, Kent. TN9 1AW.
