LET us hope Bromsgrove Council’s mistaken decision to pull down the Dolphin Centre and to replace it with an inferior building will be reconsidered.

The present building has an excellent sports hall which is well used for a wide range of sports by people of all ages. It makes a major contribution to the health of the town.

The replacement building will have no sports hall. Instead, there will be spa baths and saunas, which make no contribution to anybody’s health.

The council tells us “there are sports halls already within Bromsgrove.” The fact is none of them is up to the standard of the one we have now. Perhaps the council hopes we will go off and join a private club at £600 per year.

This decision is a big step in the wrong direction.

It offends even more when a Conservative councillor describes it as “the jewel in the crown.”
