I RECENTLY received a leaflet from Bromsgrove District Housing Trust about its sheltered Living Service.

I have been a resident at Windsor Gardens for over 20 years – has nobody informed BDHT’s managing director this complex is now used for social housing?

A place where the police are regularly called to unsocial behaviour.

The community rooms have been removed, as has one of the laundry facilities, making way for 17 units.

The lawns are now dog toilets, with animals allowed to run free.

Tenants are hanging washing out on lawns. Litter is left about and free parking is available for shoppers, other than bona-fide visitors.

The reason I came to live in Windsor Gardens is non-existent. It was because it was warden-assisted sheltered accommodation with social activities, run by residents with the warden’s help.

Residents were aged over 50 years and life was very pleasant. Gardens were well kept and good to sit in and enjoy with congenial company – a lovely atmosphere. All gone.

I’ve been told: “If you don’t like it move!” I ask: “Where to?’” Everywhere I look seems the same. Any complaints – “Fill in this log - dates, times of.” How can one do this?

Stare out of the window 24/7?

I have never seen a dedicated member of staff on site. I do get a daily 30-second long phone call to make sure I’m still here.

This area is no longer sheltered accommodation – I hardly know any of the residents so do not feel as safe as I did. I am wondering why BDHT bothered to send me a copy of their leaflet, and how much it cost to produce?

I prefer not to imagine.

I hope BDHT’s managing director now has some idea of how I, and no doubt many other neighbours, feel.
