I REFER to R Manning’s letter.

I would like to inform him that PCSOs play a major role in public re-assurance and prevention of crime, they engage with the public and gather information which is fed into various police systems.

They do not carry protective equipment, like uniformed officers, and therefore face dangers every time they conduct their patrol.

I find his views very narrow minded.

Police pay more than anyone else into their pension so therefore they deserve it, however even that has been destroyed by the government.

Officers face danger on a daily basis and do an amazing job against all odds, their heroism always goes unnoticed and the public only gets to hear about the things that don’t go right as it makes good reading in the media.

Recorded crime is at its lowest in many years and that is down to the police and public working together.
