Farewell to true friend and best dad in world

WORCESTER said farewell to a popular dentist, “true friend” and “the best dad in the world” at his funeral yesterday.

More than 100 people turned out to say a last goodbye to John Bué, a 45-year-old father-of-two who died in a motorbike accident on the A4440 Hams Way between Powick and Rushwick, on the outskirts of Worcester, last month. In a humanist service at Worcester Crematorium, mourners including patients, friends and relatives, filed in to the service to the track Made in Heaven by Queen – the band Mr Bué loved. They filed out to The Show Must Go On.

They came together to remember Mr Bué who “lived for his family,”

according to celebrant Thelma Brazier, leading proceedings.

The life-long Liverpool FC fan had set up the Green Dental Practice in Dines Green treating NHS patients in the heart of the community.

A keen golfer and angler who loved his epic movies, both classic and modern, he had also played football for the Barley Mow pub and Hallow Working Men’s Club. A lifelong pal said they had lost a “true and genuine” friend.

Mr Bué and his wife of 14 years Jocelyn recently met Queen’s guitarist Brian May backstage at the O2 arena, in an “unforgettable moment”.

On flowers that read ‘Queen’, ‘Dad’ and simply ‘John’ tributes told of the hole his death has left in so many lives.

His wife had written: “Wait for me up there in the clouds. Some day we’ll be together again X.”

On another card, Mrs penned the words: “I love you so much.

“If only this was a dream and you were back in our lives.”

From his young daughter Madeline: “Love you lots and we’ll miss you.”

“I cannot believe you’re gone and we’ll miss you lots,” wrote his other daughter, Elise.

“I’ll try to work my hardest for you. You were the best dad in the world.

His younger sister Lyn said: “John would be amazed and touched to see so many people here.

“If you can take anything from this tragic day, I suggest some of John’s own philosophy.

“He always lived life to the full, filling each day to the brim.

“Don’t let your first thought be ‘I wonder what others will think’ – John didn’t.”

Meanwhile, there were tributes for the boss who always greeted colleagues “with a smile” from staff at the dental practice.

Mr Bué was born in Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and moved to Worcester, when he was four.

He trained as a dental practitioner spending five years at the University of Birmingham as a mature student.

On qualifying he put his skills to work before setting up his own NHS practice in Gresham Road, Dines Green, in 2002.

Leading the service, Mrs Brazier said: “Death is a sad conclusion for those in old age but when somebody like John who was actively, enthusiastically and passionately involved in life dies it is like the sun being blotted out by an eclipse.”

But, she said: “The experiences we shared with John and the memories already within us will always be part of our being.”

To friends Mr Bué was known for the occasional practical joke, once scribbling a picture of a monkey over one of his mates’ passport pictures before they boarded a flight home from Kenya.

“He told me his life was his family and loved them so much,” said a lifelong friend. “We would often argue about Liverpool, his hairstyle, why my car was faster than his.

“I remember the fun times I shared with John, his sense of humour.

“He was a true friend and I think of all the good times we shared. Cheers mate.”

l This extract from one of Mr Bué’s favourite movies Bladerunner was read out at the service by his sister Lyn: “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe.

“Attacked ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.

“I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.

“All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

“Time to die.”
