CHILDREN at a pre-school near Worcester are delighted to have a new play area after one destroyed by vandals two years ago was rebuilt.
Whittington Pre-School, which meets at the village hall on Church Lane, received £8,000 from Worcestershire County Council to rebuild the playground.
Pre-school manager Julie Morgan said the children were delighted with the new playground. She said: “It’s fantastic. They absolutely love it. They want to go out all the time.”
“We’ve had a new shed, a log cabin, a sunken sandpit, two flower beds where the children can plant things and watch them grow and a circle of logs for story time.”
Before it was finished, the children at the school were not able to play outside for two months.
The new play area now has a six-foot fence around it in an attempt to keep out vandals who destroyed equipment including picnic tables, a Wendy house and a tricycle in September 2007.
The original playground had been built by the father of a former pupil only a year before it was trashed.
Your Worcester News reported how the children were left devastated by the vandalism.
After seeing our story, Meg Archdale, then aged six, donated a roundabout and slide to the group.
The new equipment has cost the school £6,000-£6,500, and they are now planning on spending the remainder of the funding on IT equipment which they hope will be ready for September.
The school currently has 26 registered pupils.
