POLITICIANS swapped their talking for walking during a sponsored event to support a children’s welfare charity.
Beverley Nielsen, Liberal Democrat Malvern Hills district councillor, and Richard Burt, the party’s parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire, successfully completed a 25-mile walk for the NSPCC.
They were among 300 walkers taking part in the HACK – Hike Against Cruelty to Kids, raising a total of £50,000 for the charity and its Childline service.
Hikers kicked off at 6am on Saturday, June 27, in Welland, walking the length of the Malvern Hills before heading back to Welland for the finish and a well-earned pig roast.
“It was tremendous to get up on the hills on such a beautiful day,” said Mr Burt.
“People came from as far as London to take part, and were rewarded with some incredible views and some very tough walking.
“Twenty-five miles is a long way, but it was definitely worth it.”
