A MUM from Worcester has become the first bride in the country to enjoy her big day in a shopping centre.
Laura MacDonnell, formerly of St Stephen’s Street, Barbourne, tied the knot with hubby Euan Crawford at the Kingdom Shopping Centre in Clydebank, Scotland, at 3pm on Saturday, July 4.
As reported in your Worcester News on Saturday, Mr Crawford, from Paisley, near Glasgow, had entered a newspaper competition to win a £12,000 wedding which included a hotel reception for 120 guests and a honeymoon in Turkey. The new Mrs Crawford, aged 28, enjoyed being in the spotlight for the day.
She said: “I was very nervous in the morning and tried to keep calm but couldn’t stop the jitters! As soon as I entered the centre and saw all of the people I was quite shocked at the crowds but just couldn’t stop smiling! It was a brilliant day and I was able to really relax and enjoy myself during the reception.”
Mr Crawford had a bit of a nervous wait for his bride-to-be, who arrived about 20 minutes late. He said: “I was a bit apprehensive at the start as Laura took her time but as soon a I heard the piper I knew I was on the home straight.
“My bottom lip started quivering when I saw Laura looking so beautiful at the top of the red carpet but I managed to hold it together.”
Anna Bluman, the Kingdom Centre marketing manager who came up with the idea and organised the event, was delighted with how the whole day went.
She said: “Everyone at the centre was very excited about the wedding day and we are so pleased with how it’s all come together. “They are such a lovely couple and we just wanted to make it a special and memorable day for them.
“I would like to thank all of the staff at the Centre who did such a fantastic job, and we all wish Euan, Laura and baby Elsie the very best of luck in their future together.
Mr Crawford is currently working as an engineer on a North Sea Ferry. Former Alice Ottley pupil Mrs Crawford is full-time mum to their daughter Elsie, aged 11 months. The couple met five years ago while working together on a cruise ship in the Caribbean.
