A BANNED driver, who was caught behind the wheel, was trying to get home to help his partner put his six-year-old child to bed, a court heard.

Aaron Adams, aged 32, of Lilac Avenue, Tolladine, was caught on Bromwich Road, after travelling home from a friend’s home in Malvern.

Sam Lamsdale, defending, said: “He had gone to visit a friend in Malvern. The friend had offered to give him a lift back.

“But they began drinking and offered the use of the car. He was driving back to his home address as he had promised to help out with the bedtime routine. She is pregnant.

Miss Lamsdale said Adams knew his disqualification had ended but did not “realise his position” in relation to driving.

She added that Adams believed someone would collect the car either later that evening or the following day.

Shafquat Reaz, prosecuting, said officers stopped Adam on Bromwich Road and had checked his details on the Police Database and, after searching the car, also discovered two plastic packets containing cannabis.

He added that Adams had made “full and frank admissions” to police.

Adams was previously convicted of aggravated vehicle taking in 2008.

Recently, Adams secured intermittent employment in the building trade with Econ Construction.

He admitted driving whilst disqualified, possession of cannabis and using a vehicle without insurance at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 13.

Magistrates disqualified Adams from driving for a further 12 months and handed him a 12-month community order.

He was ordered to attend 10 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days, carry out 100 hours unpaid work and pay £120 for driving with no insurance, £85 victim surcharge and £100 court costs.

He was given no separate penalty for cannabis possession.

Once the disqualification period is over, Adams will need to apply for his licence and complete an extended driving test.
