EMPLOYEES from and energy company have completed a marathon.
Npower’s Worcester office have taken on the mighty Pennine Skyline Marathon trek to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Npower’s charity partner of 14 years.
The team raised over a staggering £10,000, which Npower matched £4£ giving a grand total of over £20,000.
On Friday night the fundraisers headed to the village of Edale in the Peak District, where they spent the evening mentally preparing for the challenge ahead.
Paul Tonkinson, Regulation Advisor at npower’s Worcester office, explains why he took on the challenge: “Someone very close to me has been through cancer, so this walk had an extra special meaning for me. It was a long day, but my group kept each other going, even when we wanted to stop!”
The route, taking around ten hours to complete, began early morning on Saturday. The team headed out around the skyline, starting with the Mam Tor ridgeline with spectacular views of the Kinder plateau. After reaching Kinder Low they continued along the southern ridge of the plateau, around Ladybower Reservoir, up and over Winhill Pike and back to the comfort of their accommodation in Edale.
Npower and Macmillan have been working together for over 14 years.
