A BUFFET restaurant which was forced to defend its pink chicken after claims it was raw has received the highest food hygiene rating.

KungFu Oriental Buffet in Cathedral Square, Worcester, has been given a level five food hygiene rating by Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) and also showed the regulatory services how they cook their satay chicken on skewers.

Customers had previously complained to the Worcester News about the pink satay chicken at the buffet restaurant which opened in November, including Sarah Walker, 23, from Malvern who believed that a piece of chicken she ate was "raw."

The Oriental restaurant said that the pink colouring was caused by marinating, and that it was safe for customers to eat.

A KungFu spokesman said: "Regarding confusions of the pink chicken, we got an inspection from a local food hygiene officer.

"We demonstrated our standard cooking process of satay chicken on skewers, although it's pink, the officer tested and confirmed the chicken was properly cooked and safe to eat.

"In addition, we got a 5-star rating in terms of food hygiene.

"However, following customers' concern over pink chicken, our chefs are adjusting our ingredients and recipe to reduce PH level. This is to reduce any unnecessary confusion while still maintaining the good flavour.

"We want to thank those who have been supportive, and we will continue listening to customers' feedback to help us improve our food and our services."

A WRS spokesman said: “The business was inspected on 5th December 2017 and found to have very good food safety standards giving a rating of Level 5.”
