POLICE found suspected class A drugs and related paraphernalia during a morning raid at a Malvern home after neighbours had reported instances of antisocial behaviour and suspicious activity.

Officers were faced with uncapped hypodermic needles which littered the property on The Avenue in Welland after forcing their way in at 10.30am on Friday, November 24.

The warrant was issued by magistrates after neighbours had raised their concerns with West Mercia Police, and officers then commenced a systematic search alongside a sniffer dog.

The sole occupant of the Fortis-owned accommodation was at home during the raid and police have passed their details onto Swanswell drugs and alcohol rehabilitation services to help with their dependency.

Led by Sergeant Alex Denny, officers from Malvern Safer Neighbourhood Team, Malvern Patrol and the Special Constabulary took part in the warrant, with a quantity of suspected class A drugs sent for analysis.

Sgt Denny said the uncapped needles “presented a health risk to the officers conducting the search”.

“Following the successful execution of the warrant, community reassurance was conducted and officers will carry out further enquiries before inviting the occupant for an interview,” he said.

“Police were thanked by the community for their intervention and activity in the location which shows the impact that such anti-social behaviour has on the law-abiding communities of Malvern.

“The safer neighbourhood team officers will liaise with their partners from Fortis Housing with their findings following this successful intervention.”

The sergeant went on to encourage people to continue to contact their local policing teams “with any concerns they may have over criminality in their local community”.

He added: “My teams and I will respond pro-actively and swiftly to ensure that the local communities we serve continue to be safe places to live.”
