WATER company workers toiled through the night to finish fixing a burst pipe in Malvern Link.

The pipe, beneath Lower Howsell Road, ruptured on Thursday afternoon, with water flooding into Church Walk and Hill View Close.

Lower Howsell Road was closed between its junctions with Church Road and Worcester Road after the water pipe burst.

Water company Severn Trent said initially that the road would have to remain closed for two to three days to allow the repair work to be carried out.

But after staff worked through the night, the repair was completed by Friday morning.

A Severn Trent spokesman said: "One of our pipes burst in Malvern and caused some flooding in the surrounding area. The pipe has now been fixed and customers' water supplies were not affected by the burst.

"Our teams have been working hard through the night repairing the pipe, which they have now completed. They will now work on filling the pipes back up with water, getting everything back to normal.

"Our priority is always to secure water supplies for our customers so that they can use their water as normal, so we've been bringing water into the area in tankers and via our network of pipes and will continue to do so until the work on the pipe has completely finished."

After the initial burst, fire fighters from the Malvern station were called out to help contain the flooding, and sandbags were issued to local residents to help them protect their homes.

The water company also brought water into the area using tankers and via the network of pipes to ensure that the supply to customers was not interrupted.
