A TEENAGER convicted of drug dealing was caught with cannabis in Worcester.

Amaar Chaudhry admitted possession of cannabis in Worcester, a drug he had previously been been convicted for supplying, when he appeared before city magistrates on Thursday.

The 18-year-old was arrested in Worcester on an unrelated matter at 3pm on August 30.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting, said: "When he was searched at the police station they found a small amount of cannabis located in his pocket.

"He made a full admission in police interview. It was his cannabis for his own personal use. His intention was to smoke it himself."

Police seized £5 worth of the class B drug.

Chaudhry of Brokenhurst Road, Aldershot previously received a youth rehabilitation order for possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

The order had included a six week curfew, 12 months of supervision and 16 days of activities.

Ian Parsons, defending, said: "Mr Chaudhry was walking along, minding his own business on the day in question. He matched the description of a suspect in an unrelated matter.

"While at the police station they found a small amount of cannabis on him."

Chaudhry was not charged with anything in terms of the unrelated matter which triggered the arrest.

Mr Parsons conceded that it was an aggravating feature that Chaudhry was subject to a youth order made in February this year for possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

"That was a matter whereby he had been buying a quantity of cannabis then passing it to his friends" he said.

Mr Parsons described it as 'social supply'. The youth order was transferred to the probation service when Chaudhry turned 18.

Chaudhry started smoking cannabis at year 11 at school and had done so 'in large quantities' Mr Parsons told the court.

"It became an addiction for him" he said.

Chaudhry is dependent on his mother and does not have an income of his own.

Keith Stokes-Smith, chairman of the magistrates bench, said: "It's quite sad to hear somebody of your age getting involved in drugs."

Magistrates fined him £50 and ordered him to pay £185 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

They ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
