LOCAL businesses are coming together to celebrate National Honey Bee Day tomorrow (August 19).

Radfield Home Care, Beowulf Honey and Reconnections will raise awareness of the importance and significance of bees at St Peter's Garden Centre, Worcester, between 10am and 4pm.

There will be activities for all ages including talks from local beekeeper Paul Whitfield, honey tasting, bee origami, colouring and a challenge to find the top ten bee-loving plants.

Sarah Bosher, business development manager at Radfield Home Care Worcester, said: "What better way to celebrate the day by promoting the importance of bees and also their significance.

"The similarity of the bees working together to help each other, is just what we do in our caring business.

"The bee is symbolic of fertility, community, prosperity, diligence and work ethic, all of which are truly important when providing a high quality home care service within the community."

Paul Whitfield, from Beowulf Honey, said he was thrilled to be asked by Radfield to be part of the special day and can't wait to join in and help to organise the event.

Sophie Pryce, Reconnections, Age UK Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: "This is a great opportunity to not only celebrate the day, but realise how, like the bees, Reconnections play an important part in reconnecting lonely older people; putting them back in touch with their community with long-forgotten friends, hobbies and activities – just like the bees and their community."
