A PERSHORE woman has self-published her first children’s book after becoming fed up with mess left by dog walkers.

Tracey Bryant, aged 46, was annoyed at the amount of dog poo bags that she was seeing littered in the countryside.

The title of her book ‘The Dog Poo Fairy’, stemmed from a joke with her partner, Justin Turner where they would comment to each other on seeing the mess: “I bet they think the dog poo fairy will collect that.”

Describing the book as a ‘comical moral tale for children’, it is based around fairies that tidy the hedgerows.

She said that the book is aimed at all ages.

She said: “It is children’s humour. It’s not crude.

“I wrote it for children because I love my nieces - Phoebe and Hannah. I feel that children usually pick up on things, we were sat talking about fairies and they had also noticed the mess that gets left. If parents are reading it to children they might pick up the message too.”

Tracey, a gardener originally from Kent, decided to write it after some encouragement from her partner: “Justin said why don’t you write a book. I wasn’t working so I started in in January.

“He’s been very supportive. He helped proof read and would check spellings.”

Tracey struggles with dyslexia and added: “I didn’t write it to make a profit. If I make my money back that would be nice. I did it more as a challenge for myself and for Phoebe and Hannah.

“I always put myself down, but even if I don’t write another book, now I can tick one of the boxes off.”

However, she said that she already has an idea for a follow up story: “I think I will do another, I need to have a break first.”

All of the artwork for the book was done by Tracey’s friend, Ian Johnstone.

‘The Dog Poo Fairy’ is available now as a paperback and e-book. For more
