WORCESTER has been named one of the least affordable places to live in the country.

Worcester features in the top 10 least affordable locations, where house prices have increased by 2.17 per cent and salaries have decreased by 1.01 per cent, a total difference of 3.18 per cent according to property company Zoopla.

The average price of a house in Worcester is now £258,575 whilst the average salary is £27,937.

The study, in partnership with job search engine site Adzuna, has revealed price growth in the popular commuter town of Luton has outpaced rises in the average salary by 7.99 per cent over the past year.

The average property price in the Bedfordshire town has grown by an impressive 5.06 per cent since June 2016, in contrast to the average salary earned by residents, which has decreased by 2.94 per cent over the same period.

On the other end of the spectrum, Sunderland is Britain’s most affordable location according to salary growth and changes in house prices.

The UK as a whole saw property values outgrow the average wage increase by 1.13 over the past year, with the average home in the UK increasing in value by 0.53 per cent year-on-year, versus a dip in the average salary to the tune of 0.6 per cent.
