THE grand opening of Worcester's much-anticipated £20 million Cathedral Square is set to take place on Saturday.

Expect lively fun with celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, cocktail master classes, children’s workshops, a pop-up cinema and plenty of competitions.

We've put together an essential guide to help you enjoy an action packed day, without missing out on any of the fun.

What time does it all kick off?

Things get underway at about 11.45am with children's workshops. There will then be entertainment throughout the day with Lesley Waters food demonstrations at 12.30pm, 2.30pm and 4pm, an All Bar One cocktail demonstration at 1.30pm and a Great Worcester Bake Off competition at 3.15pm. The event will conclude with a pop-up cinema in the square, screening Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone at 7pm.

Is there an official opening ceremony?

Yes, of course. Worcester's mayor Cllr Steve Mackay and The Dean of Worcester, Peter Atkinson, will officially open the new square at noon, to the sound of the cathedral bells.

Where can I eat?

All Bar One, Cosy Club, Miller and Carter, Ask Italian, Pizza Express, Yo! Sushi and more are all up and running at Cathedral Square.

Is it complete?

No, the development is being finished in stages. The whole complex will be completely finished by Christmas.

What else can I expect on Saturday?

Stalls, raffles and lots of celebrating!

How big is the development?

The site brings 10,000sqm back into use.

How many jobs have been created?

415 retail jobs and leisure are being created, alongside 600 construction jobs and apprenticeship opportunities.

39 tonnes of steel was used.

90 per cent of demolition waste was recycled.

The new public space was funded with contributions from Worcester County Council, Worcester City Council, Worcester LEP and owners Salmon Harvester.
