A WOMAN is lucky to be alive after the car she was travelling in toppled down an embankment, crashed through a fence and ended up in a stream.

Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions 2 and 3 of the M50 between Bromsberrow, near Ledbury, and Upton Bishop, just after 5pm yesterday evening (Tuesday, July 25).

West Midlands Ambulance Service assessed a woman in her 20s, who suffered shoulder, chest and neck injuries before being taken to Hereford County Hospital.

A spokesman for the service said the patient was a 'very lucky lady.'

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye were called to the scene.

Tweeting from HWFireControl, a spokesman said: "One car down embankment and in stream on its side, one female self-rescued."

The crash caused delays on M50 westbound between junctions 2 and 3. The hard shoulder and lane one were closed until about 8.15pm.
