MORE than £1,000 was raised from a charity golf tournament in aid of a fundraising campaign.

Staff from Evesham vinyl flooring specialist Karndean Designflooring sponsored and took part in the tournament at Bidford-Upon-Avon Golf Club.

The tournament raised money in support of fundraising campaign Footsteps for Lewis with the funds helping six-year-old Lewis Langstone have a life-changing operation and physiotherapy, he suffers from cerebral palsy.

With its head office and showroom based in Vale Park, Evesham, Karndean sponsored the event and entered a team of four after a request from Dan Curry, lifelong friend of Lewis’s Dad, Stewart Langstone.

Mr Curry said: "I decided to organise this event as Lewis’ parents, Stewart and Laura, have been successfully fundraising for several years and every penny helps the family get one step closer to reaching the final total needed.

“It was a great pleasure to organise the event on behalf of Footsteps for Lewis, however, it would not have taken place without the generosity of all the sponsors and the teams who entered.

“The day was great fun, the weather was kind, and most importantly we raised a substantial sum of money. We’re looking forward to next year’s event which I hope will be even bigger.”

Mr Langstone added: "Footsteps for Lewis has grown with the help of some amazing people, who have organised events, given up their time and donated money.

"Without their generous help, we don’t know where we would be today.

"The golf day was a magnificent success - Dan Curry did a superb job. We would like to thank the tee sponsors and Karndean for their overall sponsorship.”

Other local companies who took part included Howdens Joinery, Millvale Building Services, Evesham Trade Centre, County Building Supplies, IDS Transport, SM Plastering, Acorn Creative Signs, and Scott’s Plant.

Even though Lewis has made good progress since his diagnosis of cerebral palsy, a lifelong condition which affects movement and co-ordination of his arms and legs, he needs an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, which is not typically funded by the NHS.

The money raised will also cover the subsequent intensive physiotherapy and specialist equipment to help Lewis carry out day to day life, £1,320 was raised on the day for the cause.

Matthew Brown, national trade manager of Karndean Designflooring, said: “Our team had a fantastic day at the golf tournament and it was an absolute pleasure to be the main sponsors, raising funds for a very worthy cause which will help Lewis going forward. We’re proud to have been involved and we appreciate the huge effort made by Dan and all who made this event possible.”
