RAIN couldn’t dampen the spirits of visitors to a school’s summer fete.

Hundreds of families braved the showers for the event at Pitmaston Primary School last Saturday.

Pupils from the school performed a series of dances to fit in with the fete’s theme of Around the World.

Bhangra and Zumba were among the styles on display, while pupils from year 5 performed the New Zealand war dance, the Haka.

A cake decorating competition was held, with pupil Laura Jervis taking first place in the key stage 2 category for her Russian doll cake.

Visitors were entertained indoors with a series of upbeat songs from Worcester Ukelele band.

While singer-songwriter Jodie Howland, a former pupil at the school, sang and played guitar outside.

Members of the emergency services took their vehicles to show off to the children.

Police officers created a crime scene and junior detectives were able to record their fingerprints.

There was also a fairground ride, tombolas, games and a barbecue.

Stall holders were at the fete selling plants, books, jewellery, make-up, toys and gifts.

Becky Brixey, chairman of the school’s PTA, said: “Despite the rain, hundreds of parents turned up to watch their children’s performances and enjoy the day.

“Thanks to them we raised more than £2,500 which will go towards IT equipment for the children.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.”
