IT was an explosive science lesson for children from a Pershore school.

The whole of Abbey Park First School watched a show by visiting organisation, Mad Science, which showed how explosions used chemical reactions.

The experiment was part of the school's annual science day which was themed around change to celebrate this year's British Science Week.

On the day, there were also class workshops for years 1 to 4 with fun, interactive science activities for the children to take part in.

Nursery and Reception children planted sunflower and cress seeds and talked about what they need to grow.

Year 1 children planted bulbs and investigated colour changes in flowers when they absorb coloured water.

Year 2 children blew bubbles on the playground and investigated wind direction and speed while Year 3 children designed and made rockets powered by fizzy tablets and water.

Children in year 4 experimented with food colouring, milk and washing up liquid to explore surface tension.

The science day took place on Friday, March 10.
