PENSIONS advice, paying for long term care, tax information, issues about hearing, home adaptations, keeping fitter as you get older and a whole host of other help and information will be on hand at Worcester’s Guildhall this weekend.

The annual 55+ and Retirement Roadshow is being organised by the National Careline which is run by Barbara Davies from her home near Suckley, Worcestershire, and aims to offer a wide range of useful and practical advice to people in their mid-50s and over or in retirement to make their lives better and more enjoyable.

The first of this year’s shows takes place from 9.30am until 2.30pm on Saturday March 25 at the Guildhall and is free to attend. Another one will be held in Hereford on Saturday September 2.

Mrs Davies said: “The over 55s lead very busy and diverse lives. Some are looking after relatives at home - either their children who haven't left home or elderly relatives. Some have relatives in a home, while others will be living an active retirement. Some will be facing redundancy while others will even be thinking of branching out into a new career.

“This group of people are the new ‘younger old’ and have access to many more varied choices about their future than in their parents’ day. Yet with choices, come decisions and the need for advice and help.

“This is where we step in. We run these roadshows with the particular aim of providing an information hub where people can come along, quiz our experts and find out the answers to the problems concerning our 55+ age group.”

She added: “We have taken a good look at the issues that are concerning this group of people and then invited exhibitors that we feel match with these needs and concerns.

“The result is a wonderful mix of exhibitors who will be there offering help and advice on the very relevant issues concerning people at this particular stage in their life.”

There will be a range of professionals on hand to explain about making a will and Lasting Power of Attorney; getting the best from pensions; tax advice for older people; financing retirement and care costs; legal issues for older people; equity release schemes; health and wellbeing advice; mobility aids and schemes; benefits advice and much more.

Anyone who would like to discuss their own situation can book a 10 minute consultation with one of the experts. Appointments can be booked in advance by ringing 0800 0699 784 or just turn up on the day.

“We have a very varied content and this year we have a string quartet made up with elderly musicians who love to get together and we even have a belly dancer,” said Mrs Davies.
