A FORMER pub landlord says lorries keep getting stuck in a narrow Worcester street because there are too many parked cars and no-one doing anything about them.

Park Street was blocked yet again last Tuesday (March 14) after a lorry, heading from the direction of Wylds Lane, got stuck. It took about two hours for the lorry to get free, with police having to contact the owners of the parked cars lining the road.

Residents believe sat navs are directing lorries up the road – and have called for HGVs to be banned from entering the area or for signs warning that the road is unsuitable for large vehicles.

But Cyril Misters, who ran the former Bricklayers Arms pub, in Park Street, until the early-1980s, says the lorries are not the problem – the parked cars are.

"In the early 80s we never had these there," said the 81-year-old, of Dent Close, in Worcester.

"We still had the lorries back then but there was not this problem with parking.

"There are more cars now. Road are just car parks now and the council just seems to be shutting its eyes to it.

"Something needs to be done, I think they need to wake up.

"If the council cannot put a single or a double yellow line down there to stop them parking down there then I just don't understand it. It's absolutely ridiculous."

We have previously reported how lorries got stuck in almost the exact same spot in Park Street back in January and in April 2016. And some residents say it is almost a weekly occurrence.

Worcestershire County Council says it is investigating the problems in Park Street.

Head of Highways, Jon Fraser, said: "We will look to see if additional signage or parking restrictions would be appropriate, although any change in parking would need to be consulted upon."
