A GROUP of volunteers travelled to Worcester in memory of the daughter of a staff member.

Around 20 people from Medtronic, based in Watford, spent the day digging and planting at St Richard's Hospice to thank the charity for looking after Laura Walker, the daughter of sales director Mark Kerrigan.

Mrs Walker passed away aged 27 due to cancer and was cared for by the hospice at the end of her life.

Emma van Eeden, senior marketing manager said, “Laura was looked after by the St Richard’s team at the end of her short life, and the support they gave Mark and his family was something he talks about often.

"That made us think it would be great to come and volunteer to give something back.”

She added: “Our company’s mission is to help create a better, healthier world for patients, communities and the environment and volunteering at St Richard’s was a great example of giving something back to a cause that matters to us.

"We hope we will be able to contribute again in a small way in the future.”

The group helped to put up new borders at the hospice.

St Richard’s has more than 900 active volunteers helping in all areas of the hospice from patient care to its 17 shops in the county.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones.

Each year the hospice team supports over 2,500 patients and family members in Worcestershire.
