A FORMER Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College student will take on the role of Project Manager for a sport development project in Zambia this summer.

Jon Nottingham will lead a team of 30 UK university students over a four-month period.

They will be working a variety of school placement sites and in the community of some of the most deprived areas of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.

The group will educate pupils through sport and increase the provision of sport at a community level to enhance the lives of young people who otherwise live in very poor living conditions.

Jon said: "Having spent six weeks out in Zambia in 2015, I fell in love with the place, the people and the project! "Everyone involved can see the vast difference that the project is making to lives of these under privileged children.

"Just the smiles on the young people's faces are so infectious you instantly appreciate the difference we are making to their lives."

He said the project was the experience of a lifetime.

He is now looking to raise £1,000 to help with his travels and enable him to take extra equipment out to some of the poorest communities in the city.
