A FUNDRAISING Worcester group raised an impressive £1,300 over Christmas.

The Independent Fundraisers of Worcester teamed up with Santa for a collection in the Asda store in Silver Street.

The team helped hand out more than 20 tubs of sweets to children as they shopped with their parents, and Santa was available for photographs.

The money raised has been donated to Fort Royal Community Primary School - the school in Wyld's Lane that caters for more than 100 children with learning or physical difficulties.

The school requires specialist equipment including trikes, providing good balance for youngsters, tents for autistic children to enjoy outdoor learning and waterproof bean bags so that children in wheelchairs can be hoisted from their chair.

Margaret Jones, the school's grants and fundraising co-ordinator, said: "The £1,300 donation will make a huge difference to the children at the school and we are so grateful for the help provided by both Asda and Independent Fundraisers in raising the profile of the school.

"The kind people of Worcester have once again shown their generosity and support for children with learning and physical challenges who need help and encouragement so much."

The next collection at Asda will take place on Saturday, February 18, which will be raising money for Deaf Direct Worcester.
