A NEW open mic comedy night is set to be launched in Worcester with a view to becoming a regular event.

Alex Redmond, from St John's, will host the free open-mic night at The Firefly in Lowesmoor tomorrow (Thursday) night.

The 23-year-old says he will gauge whether the event can become a monthly fixture in Worcester's entertainment calendar based on the first night's success.

Already 10 acts - some from as far away as Bristol - have been confirmed to take to the stage, however any budding comics are welcome to come along and have a go.

Mr Redmond said: "Hopefully this will be a nice, welcoming, friendly platform for them to try things out.

"I feel like there is a lot of open mic nights in Worcester for music, but there is not really anything for comedy.

"If this goes well, we will look at doing it monthly."

The entertainment starts from 8pm, and runs until 11pm.
