A PERSHORE High School pupil who won a four day legacy trip to Normandy has also completed a successful fundraising ride.
Ellis Morris, 13, a year nine pupil at the Station Road-based school, won a competition to design next year's challenge coin for the Return to Normandy (RTN) group which organises for veterans from the D-Day Landings and Operation Overlord to return to Normandy for the anniversaries.
This won him the chance to take part in the four day legacy trip to Normandy, which has been taking place this week.
Ellis wanted to do something extra for the veterans before the trip, so organised his own 20 mile sponsored bike ride that managed to raise £650.
Mark Waring, RTN chairman, wrote on Facebook: "He raised the phenomenal sum.
"To put this in simple terms, Ellis has raised enough on his own for a veteran to travel back to France in 2017."
Clive Corbett, Pershore High headteacher, added: "Ellis found it tougher than he expected, but the thought of the £650 that he would raise for veterans’ charities kept him going.
"Ellis also took part in a marvellous evening at The Poppy Concert at Number 8, where he read The Poppy poem."
