IT IS a double celebration for a couple celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today.

Ivor and Beryl Morris, from Cavendish Street, Worcester, not only mark 60 happy years together but are also be celebrating Mrs Morris's 81st birthday.

The couple met when Beryl worked with Ivor's mother at GH Hunt Jewellers, now Peplow Jewellers, High Street, Worcester.

Mrs Morris said: "His father passed away suddenly and I went around to see his mother with one of the girls and that's how we met."

After three years the couple tied the knot at St Mark's Church, Bath Road, on Mrs Morris' 21st birthday and followed it up with a reception at the Co-operative Institute.

After they married, the couple lived in Whittington for seven years, and had two children Julie and Gary.

They now have four grandchildren too, Alexander and Mark Smith and Isabella and Patrick.

Mr Morris, aged 85, worked at Carmichael's for 42 years before being made redundant.

They will celebrate with their children and grandchildren with a meal at The Retreat at Norton.

Mrs Morris said the secret to a long and happy marriage was "give and take and just helping each other."
