THE golden façade of the University of Worcester Arena will be glowing even brighter next month.

The venue, in Hylton Road, is one of a number up and down the country that will ‘glow gold’ during September as part of a campaign for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The University of Worcester has been working with Jennifer Kelly, from Crowle, whose daughter Grace died aged just four in 2014.

Grace’s parents set up the Grace Kelly Ladybird Trust in her memory and Mrs Kelly later became a founder member of the Glow Gold Campaign Anne Hannaford, director of arts and culture at the university, said: “We heard about Jennifer’s aim to get buildings ‘glowing gold’ and were delighted to offer to light the arena and support such an important campaign.”

There will be a collection box in the arena throughout September raising funds for Childhood Cancer.

The Glow Gold Campaign was set up by a group of parents of children who have had cancer and aims to raise awareness globally about childhood cancer and ensure people look for early signs.

Pershore Abbey and Gloucester Cathedral are also taking part and other local businesses are being encouraged to decorate or light their premises and hold fundraising events.

Mrs Kelly told the Worcester News: “We are asking for iconic buildings across Worcestershire to illuminate their external façade in gold for September from dusk until dawn.

“We want to improve the profile of childhood cancer in line with that of the more well known adult cancers.

“Our aim is to ensure the colour gold becomes synonymous with childhood cancer and our awareness month September.”
