MISCHIEF will be managed at a bookshop's midnight opening for excited fans as the long-awaited new Harry Potter book hits shelves.

The house elves and booksellers at Waterstones Worcester have organised an evening of fun to celebrate the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child parts I and II on Saturday (July 30).

There is also the chance for one lucky Worcester News reader to be the first person to receive their copy of the book on the night.

Already over 300 books have been pre-ordered by eager Harry Potter fans at the bookshop in The Shambles and 100 tickets have been sold for the midnight opening.

Fans have been excited about the prospect of the scripts after the original book series finished in 2007 and the films concluded in 2011.

The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened at the Palace Theatre, London in June and begins 19 years after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Emily Sparey, bookseller and events co-ordinator said doors will be opened to bookworms at 10.30pm with activities running until 12.30am.

"We haven't really done a midnight launch since the last Harry Potter book about nine years ago.

"That was during Worcester floods and we still had lines queuing up outside the store and sold out all of the tickets.

"We've had lots and lots of interest.

"People want to know what happens next and are looking forward to the continuation of the story.

"People are really excited."

Staff will be dressed up, as will many of the books' fans for a fancy dress competition, and there will be owl racing, find the snitch and more activities.

Tickets cost £10 and will include entry to the store and a copy of the book and must be bought in advance from the shop.

* To enter the competition email your answer to the following question to worcester@waterstones.com with your name, a contact number and Cursed Child Competition in the subject heading.
