A Crowngate jewellers was burgled following a break-in during the early hours of the morning.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information after Ice Fine Jewellers on Chapel Walk was broken into at around 4.45am.

The offenders travelled down the High Street by motorcycle. The passenger got off and used force to gain entry to the premises.

Once inside he has taken a quantity of jewellery and watches of unknown value, which he carried out using a hessian reusable shopping bag.

Both men left the scene on the motorcycle, riding back up the High Street and turning right towards the Cathedral.

The man driving the motorcycle was wearing all black and had his face covered with a white scarf.

The passenger was wearing a bright green boiler suit with a dark coloured jacket over the top, and a motorcycle helmet. He is described as being tall and of large build.

The motorcycle used was dark in colour and was described as 'scramble-style'.

A spokesman for Crowngate Shopping Centre said: "We can confirm that at 4.45am on June 29 a premises was forceably entered and jewellery was stolen.

"The Police were in attendance, and we are currently working with our tenants and the Police.

"However, the Shoping Centre is open and trading as normal."

CCTV footage is being reviewed. Anyone who has information about the incident should call 101 quoting incident reference number 53s of Wednesday 29 June.
