THE first residents have moved into Worcester's new charity-run retirement community.
Marion Moss, aged 93, and Roger Houghton, 89, have been settling in to life at Whiston Court, in White Ladies Close, and testing out all its facilities.
The £6 million Whiston Court has been developed by the Abbeyfield Worcester Society and is the city's first not-for-profit retirement community.
Both moved to their new apartments from the charity’s former accommodation, a Grade II Listed Georgian house in Green Hill.
Just days after moving in, Ms Moss put the 24-hour, on-site call out system to the test when she fell and broke her wrist late in the evening.
“It was very lucky that people were here on site to help straight away, it is very reassuring to know that help is on hand should you need it,” she explained.
Mr Houghton said: "I do like to get out and about, and the location is perfect for popping into town, and the food here is very good. To have a freshly-cooked meal, prepared on-site every day is very good."
Carole Stirling,Whiston Court manager, said: "While we were very happy in our former, Green Hill property, the facilities, accommodation and on-site support services here at Whiston Court are far above and beyond what was possible to offer our residents previously."
