FLY-TIPPERS put drivers' lives at risk by dumping boulders in the middle of a road at night causing a car crash.

Two sets of boulders were dumped in a similar 'chicane' pattern on Doverdale Lane and Hanbury Road, in Droitwich, on Thursday night.

Both are unlit roads with a speed limit of 60mph.

A driver on Hanbury Road crashed into one of the boulders, which was one foot by one foot, at about 3.45am on Friday but, fortunately, was not injured.

Police believe the two incidents are connected because of the type of boulder used and the pattern they were placed on the road.

Officers moved the boulders to the side of the road and they have now been collected by Worcestershire Highways.

PCSO Andrea Leslie, from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "The rocks on Doverdale Lane were discovered by a member of the public at 3am.

"They were described as being two sets of rocks, two on the right of the road and two on the left, almost like a chicane.

"Officers arrived within 15 minutes of the call and were able to move the rocks themselves.

"They were described as being a foot wide and a foot high.

"The rocks found on the Hanbury Road were also reported by a member of the public at 3.45am who sadly collided with the boulders which were laid out on the road in the same way as those on Doverdale Lane.

"Officers arrived at the location within ten minutes of the call and were able to move the rocks to the side of the road.

"It is fortunate that the motorist wasn't injured as a result of this collision."

Droitwich Safer Neighbourhoods Team has asked anyone with information to call 101 quoting reference number 48/S/060516.
