THOUSANDS of visitors flocked to enjoy the launch day of RHS Malvern Spring Festival in glorious Spring sunshine.

The impressive four-day event, held at Malvern's Three Counties Showground, will continue until Sunday - and there is a host of attractions to enjoy throughout the weekend.

On Thursday guests browsed the many stalls, show gardens and nursery displays, while a BBC crew filmed scenes for Gardener's World, due to air tonight (Friday).

Celebrity gardener Alan Titchmarsh entertained crowds of guests, while television presenter Monty Don was also spotted enjoying the beautiful displays.

Ken Nottage, chief executive of hosts the Three Counties Agricultural Society, said: "What a phenomenal start to RHS Malvern Spring Festival and in glorious Spring sunshine!

"The showground has been awash with gardening and food lovers soaking up the fantastic atmosphere.

"We’re delighted to have welcomed a greatly increased number of visitors and hope this will continue over the weekend as the sun continues to shine.

"Weather’s looking promising as it’s set to be the hottest weekend of the year so far."

This year Mary Berry and Alan Titchmarsh both appear on the bill, and visitors can also enjoy a host of stunning show gardens, nursery displays, stalls from food producers and top tips from celebrity chefs and gardeners.

An impressive angel sculpture by Malvern artist Ed Elliott takes centre stage in Festival Green.

The piece, titled Greer, has a wingspan of 14ft and is carved from a cedar tree felled in Croome Court.

Isobel Swaithes, a family friend of Mr Elliott, said: "It is just very moving to see it."

The Festival is the Royal Horticultural Society's first major outdoor gathering of the year.
