CONCERNS about speeding drivers and how to deal with the issue was discussed at the latest meeting of Warndon Parish Council.

Last June the Worcester News reported on the speeding issues in Warndon Villages, including Plantation Drive where figures recorded that of 90,000 drivers using the road, more than half exceeded the 30mph speed limit.

The issue was revisited at the latest meeting of the Parish Council, held at Lyppard Hub on Monday evening.

Councillor Ray Morris, vice chairman of the authority, spoke out against drivers exceeding the 30mph limit say some were travelling up to 45mph, and pointed out the problem was not just in Plantation Drive but was also evident in Woodgreen Drive and Hastings Drive.

At the meeting councillors also discussed the expected impact of more cars, if applications such as the GTech development are approved.

Concerns were raised about the increase of footfall, particularly people crossing busy 40mph roads in the area.

Chairman Dave Long said: "I do not want to be sitting here after a person has been killed.

"Pedestrian safety is the most important thing."

Sergeant Simon Hallam, from West Mercia Police, spoke at the meeting and explained Community Support Officers have now been trained to use hand held speed cameras, and would be out in Warndon to try to catch offenders.

Sgt Hallam said: "You are always going to get speeding - what is the answer?

"It comes down to the budget, and our resources.

"We will certainly try to do better.

"There will be more speed enforcement this year, now extra officers are trained."
