YOUNGSTERS enjoyed junk modelling, cricket, soft play and parachute games at a play day event.

Arts and crafts were also on offer at the Guildhall in Worcester where Action for Children’s Worcester children’s centres were celebrating national playday earlier this month.

On the day, Worcester City Council’s sports development team also delivered multi-sports activities and story telling sessions were held at The Hive.

The event was organised to promote the importance of play in children's lives and show it is fundamental for health and happiness.

Sue Rogers, Action for Children’s head of service in Worcester, said: “National playday is a wonderful opportunity for families to get together and play together.

"Modern life is very busy and fast-moving but we must never forget how important play is for children and their emotional and physical wellbeing.

“Our children’s centres provide support for children and young people aged up to 19 and their families in Worcester.

"The service is made up of several projects including early help centres, family outreach services, youth support and community development projects.

“Through this work we are aware of the need for children to express themselves through play so we are very keen to celebrate children’s right to play.

"I hope many families enjoyed the event as we made national play day a day to remember.”

The annual event traditionally takes place on the first Wednesday in August.
