A NEW house and extension to an existing building in Shrawley, near Worcester, has been refused planning permission over fears around overdevelopment of the area.

Members of Malvern Hills District Council’s Northern Area Development Management Committee blocked the plans for a new building and extension to Pipe House at a meeting on Wednesday, July 1.

Speaking at the meeting applicant George Armstrong, who currently lives in Pipe House, said all but one of the consultees were in favour of the plans going ahead.

“This is not a speculative development because we intend to live in it, he said.

He added the site was not a Greenfield site as it was currently part of the existing property.

But John Goulter, who lives next door to the property, said he was concerned about the impact the development would have on his home.

“Should this be granted it would open the floodgates to other garden developments in Shrawley,” he said.

Members voted to throw out the application by ten votes to zero, with one abstention.
