COMMUNITY groups are one again invited to bid for a share of hundreds of pounds.
Your Worcester News has teamed up with Worcester Lions Club to administer its Community Grant scheme this summer.
The club has £1,500 to give away and is inviting community groups to bid for up to £300.
It is the second round of grants this year.
Back in April eight groups received cheques ranging from £100 to £250 from the scheme.
They were presented with their cheques by the Mayor of Worcester at the Guildhall.
The successful organisations included the Make Time Friendship Group, which applied from a grant to help elderly members who struggle financially with transport costs for getting to the weekly sessions on Wednesdays in Barbourne.
Severn Sounds Festival used their £150 to fund free arts workshops for young people at the annual Worcester music event, which is taking place on Friday and Saturday (May 29 to 31).
Other recipients were a creative group at St Paul’s Hostel in Worcester, which received £250 towards a filming projects, Mumsnet, which was given £250 to set up a regular meeting for members, Asha Women’s Centre which got £250 for a swimming project
with disadvantaged females, Sons of Rest which got £100 for its work with ex-servicemen, Powick Playing Fields Association which received £150 to help maintain the green space and Age UK which received £250 towards its active age festival.
This year Worcester Lions Club is once again welcoming applications from any groups benefitting the community.
Geoff Lewis, from the club, said: "The members of the club are delighted to be able help these groups in such a way.
"A small donation in some cases is all that is needed to help groups with funding. It's hoped to once again hold a presentation evening. It is always nice to meet members of the successful groups face to face."
Funding for the grants comes from the Lions’ Christmas sleigh tour.
