A Worcester fundraising team have donated more than £1,000 to West Midlands Search and Rescue.

Independent Fundraisers of Worcester raised £1,500 by hosting a charity golf day, and chose to donate the money to the life saving organisation, which will fund its operational costs for a month.

Richard Andrews, of West Midlands Search and Rescue which does not receive any government funding, said: "We are extremely thankful for the donation from Independent Fundraisers of Worcester.

"£1500 will cover about four weeks operational costs and helps to take the pressure off our own fundraising efforts.

"We would like to thank all of the supporters and sponsors of the charity golf day, and in particular Westlands Hyundai Worcester who were the main sponsors of the event".

West Midlands Search and Rescue carries out emergency services for floods, rapid water and land rescue activities around the clock. Its members have to pay for their own kit, fuel, equipment and also have to fund their own training.

As well as carrying out around the clock rescues, the team also gives to talks to school children on safety awareness.

The charity golf day went ahead at Ombersley Golf Club.

Independent Fundraisers of Worcester is organising a second charity golf day, at the same golf club, to take place next year.

It is scheduled to go ahead on Thursday, June 9 2016, and the organisation is already taking bookings for the event.
