THE driver of a refuse lorry has been re-bailed as investigations continue into the death of Sylvia Russell in September.

Miss Russell, from Dent Close, Worcester, was killed after being hit by the refuse truck in The Shambles on Monday, September 29.

The driver, who was working for Smith's Waste Management of Gloucester, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving at the scene.

He was originally bailed until Wednesday, January 7 but has been re-bailed until Monday, March 9 while investigations continue.

At the time of Miss Russell's death, the driver's employer Alan Smith called it a tragic accident and said the driver was a reliable and conscientious member of staff.

The pensioner's death shocked the city and for many months floral tributes rested against the window of Argos near to the scene of the accident.

About thirty people attended the funeral of Miss Russell, a keen letter writer to the Worcester News, which was held at Astwood Crematorium in November.

An inquest into her death has been opened and adjourned.

Anyone with information about Miss Russell's death should call the non-emergency police number 101 quoting reference number 133 of 29th September.
