MEMBERS of a bowls club have been left "frustrated" and "disillusioned" as the playing green has flooded once again.

The green at King George V Park is flooded again, and this time has been out of action for around a month, leaving the players of Brickfields Park Bowling Club without a home pitch once again.

Mike Wilkes, one of the club's players, says this has been happening for around four years without any solutions, and wants it solved before the next season starts in April.

Mr Wilkes, who is also a member of community bowls, said: "The water is still there, and every time it happens, we have to pump it off.

"All we need is drains, but nothing is ever done about it and everyone we call constantly passes the buck in my opinion.

"This has been going on for around four years now, I'm totally disillusioned by this and it's left us all feeling really frustrated.

"Last season we could only play eight games out of 24 due to our green being flooded, it's not good enough.

"The next season starts in April, so we will definitely need it fixed by then, otherwise we won't be able to play a lot of games, yet again.

Worcester City Council is investigating how to stop the problem.

A city council spokesman: “We are actively investigating measures than can be taken to alleviate the flooding problem at the bowling green.”

Mr Wilkes says some members of the club have threatened to jump ship to other clubs, just so they can play.

"We have around 35 people in the club, and we're all pensioners, so being able to socialise and play bowls regularly is really important to us. It's more the socialising side of things if anything.

"Last season we had people saying they wanted to quit and play for other clubs so they could get a game.

"It's really depressing when the day of the game comes you get a phone call saying it's cancelled, or we've got to travel elsewhere to play on someone else's green.

"To stop people from quitting, we have had to offer free membership, which is certainly not ideal."
