WORCESTER is the most generous city when it comes to stocking-filling, a survey has found.

The poll by Poundland found that 28 per cent of UK adults still wake up to a stocking at Christmas.

Almost two-thirds of Worcester residents fill a stocking for a loved one.

Richard Lancaster, trading director at Poundland, said: “Stockings are a great way to add some extra excitement to Christmas morning and they’re affordable too. Our research has shown that the majority of people opt for inexpensive stocking fillers."

According to the survey, the average spend per stocking is £15.85, but almost a quarter of people will choose traditional stocking fillers such as lump of coal and a satsuma.
