A SNAP of Worcester’s Victorian Christmas Fayre in full festive flow has won a national photography competition.

The photo triumphed in the Love Your Local Market contest for the best images of Christmas fayres across the country.

Helen Mole, head of events at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, the organisers of the Worcester spectacle, took the winning photo, which features a street entertainer juggling in front of an illuminated carousel.

She said: “I am delighted and really pleased to have won.

“I wanted a picture of Worcester’s Victorian Christmas Fayre to win but I didn’t expect it to be mine.”

She added that she looks forward to spending her prize – a £20 voucher for a local market – at Angel Place in Worcester.

The Christmas fayre in 2014 attracted record-breaking footfall, with police statistics revealing about 125,000 people visited the festive attraction - giving the economy a massive financial boost.

Stall holders, hotels, restaurants and shops all reported excellent trading results, after 265 coaches full of tourists and many more locals descended on Worcester to experience the Christmas cheer.
