A CHAMPION for the rights of people with a learning disability was right at the heart of significant breaking news.

While shadowing Worcester MP Robin Walker, Laura Gill was in the House of Commons watching David Cameron grilled by Ed Milliband on the comments of Lord Freud about pay for disabled people.

Laura was in the Commons in her role as chair of the Worcestershire People’s Parliament for adults with learning disabilities.

She spent a day attending meetings, doing research in the MP’s office and looking around the buildings.

“I had a great day with Robin and didn’t notice the argument going on at first.

"It was only later when I talked to other people that I realised what Lord Freud had said.

"I think he is wrong.

"Everyone deserves a fair wage for their work.

"We are trying to get more people with a disability to get work and this won’t help.”

The next Worcestershire People’s Parliament is in December.

Members will debate a white paper on the way services cope with the change from childhood to adulthood.
