A St John's pizza outlet which applied for extended opening hours has amended its application following residents' concerns.

Papa John's Pizza had applied to Worcester City Council to remain open until 4am everyday of the week, but this application will now see the fast-food establishment open until 11.30pm on Sunday to Thursday, and 12.30am on Friday and Saturday- it currently closes at 11pm.

St John's County Councillor, Richard Udall, objected to the original planning application, but has now withdrawn this objection, describing the revised proposal potential opening hours as an "acceptable compromise."

He said: "I’m pleased they have responded to local concerns and have reduced the trading hours they were applying for.

"I had received a large number of calls from worried residents who were horrified that the take-away could remain open until 4am.

"Papa John’s have responded to these concerns and recognised that such hours were not acceptable to the local community. This is an acceptable compromise."

Despite being contacted a number of times by your "Worcester News", Papa John's declined to comment.

Cllr Udall has expressed a warning to Papa John's however, saying he and residents will "not hesitate" to act should disturbance levels rise too high.

"Local residents and I will be monitoring the situation. If noise or disturbance becomes a problem we will not hesitate to use the powers at our disposal to intervene.

" I hope we will never need to act, but they are in a residential area and they do need to realise that people do not wish to be disturbed by their activities.

“I wish them every success for the future. St John’s needs good local businesses like Papa John’s, I just hope that they can now peacefully co-exist with local residents" he said.
