A NEW mental health unit for older patients in Worcestershire with dementia has been given a royal seal of approval.
The Duchess of Gloucester cut the ribbon at New Haven in Bromsgrove, a new unit caring for older people with dementia and other mental health problems, on Thursday, September 11.
The unit at the Prince of Wales Community Hospital is run by Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, which runs the majority of mental health and community services in the county, and opened to patients last year
Ward manager Tony Baker led the Duchess on a tour around the 30-bed facility, which is equipped to care for patients with alzheimer’s, depression, anxiety and psychosis.
The trust’s chief executive Sarah Dugan said she was “delighted” the Duchess had agreed to officially open the unit.
“We are extremely proud of the service and are really pleased that patients and their families can be supported in such an excellent environment that was designed specifically to meet their needs," she said.
