THE world wide web has provided the inspiration for a school's garden entry at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

Children from Abberley Parochial VC Primary School chose to centre their garden on the invention as part of the festival's Great Moment in History theme.

The garden, called the mouse's garden, includes features such as a pathway designed to look like a keyboard with each pupil making their own clay tile to form the keys.

As the internet is a global resource, the garden also incorporates elements of the seven continents of the world.

One is the Amazon river which runs throughout the garden.

Headteacher Anne Wylie said: "This has been a project involving all of the children and their families from the start.

"The school has organised a series of competitions for the whole family connected in some way with the garden.

"Making a model of a mouse was the first one and every entry will have its place in the finished garden.

"Another competition was to find and illustrate a recipe from around the world.

"All of the recipes will be included in a book produced by the children which will be on sale at the show.

"The final competition was to decorate a cake to match the theme.

"The standard was extremely high and the money from the sale of the cakes helped to finance the garden."

Local companies J.W. Lane Ltd of Stanford Bridge, Wigleys DIY of Stourport, Webbs of Wychbold and Worlds End Nursery in Hallow also donated materials to help with the garden.

Children in years 5 and 6 made a textile version of the garden using techniques and materials including batik and were helped by parents and members of the Local Women’s Institute.

One of the pupils has even emailed the inventor of the web Tim Berners-Lee to tell him about the garden.

The RHS Malvern Spring Festival, which takes place from Thursday, May 8 until Sunday, May 11, is the only RHS Show in the UK to have a collection of show gardens designed and built entirely by schoolchildren.

This year a record number of 21 schools from across Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Bromsgrove, Coventry, Herefordshire, Kidderminster and Malvern will be creating gardens.
